Terms of Service

The rules of the road. We've kept them simple, fair, and easy to read.

1. Using RouteTale

The Short Version

You must be a human doing legal things. Don't abuse the system.

  • —You must provide accurate information when registering.
  • —No illegal activities, scraping, or attempting to hack the service.
  • —We may suspend accounts that violate these rules without notice.

2. Your Content

The Short Version

You own your stories. We just host them.

  • —You retain 100% ownership of your GPX data, text, and media.
  • —You grant us permission to host and display this content to operate the service.
  • —Do not upload copyrighted material you do not own.

3. Pro Plans, Billing & Refunds

The Short Version

Cancel anytime. No hidden fees. Refunds are handled by Paddle, our Merchant of Record.

  • —Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually upfront, in advance, via Paddle.com (our Merchant of Record, who handles all payment processing and appears as the merchant on your card statement).
  • —You can cancel anytime from Account → Billing. Access remains active until the end of your current billing cycle — no further charges after that.
  • —Refund policy: we do not offer partial-period refunds for time already used on a subscription. If you believe you were charged in error, or a renewal charge was not authorized, contact support@routetale.app within 14 days of the charge and we will review it.
  • —Approved refunds are issued by Paddle back to your original payment method, typically within 5-10 business days.
  • —Refunds required by applicable consumer protection law (e.g. EU/UK statutory withdrawal rights) are always honored regardless of the policy above.

4. Liability

The Short Version

We try our best, but RouteTale is provided "as is".

  • —We are not liable for any damages resulting from using the app.
  • —Maps and data are for storytelling, not critical navigation.
  • —Our maximum liability is limited to what you paid us in the past 12 months.

5. Guest Projects

The Short Version

Projects you start before signing in are temporary — sign up to keep them.

  • —You can start a project without an account. It is stored temporarily and is not yet tied to you.
  • —Guest projects are automatically deleted after 48 hours if you don't create an account and claim them.
  • —Once you sign up and claim it, the project follows the same rules as any other project on your account.

6. Copyright & DMCA

The Short Version

We respect copyright. If you see your work stolen, let us know and we will remove it.

  • —We comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
  • —If you believe your copyrighted work has been uploaded to RouteTale without authorization, please email us at support@routetale.app with a valid takedown notice.
  • —We will promptly remove infringing content and terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.
